Embark on a journey through the Public Housing (PH) program, a federal initiative supporting over 2.3 million American families—a cornerstone in low-income housing assistance. Join us to delve into program essentials: selection, occupancy, eligibility, income, and rent calculation. Tailored for new or newer eligibility workers, this foundational training ensures a comprehensive grasp of regulatory guidance shaping the Public Housing program. 

Immerse yourself in case scenarios and exercises designed to hone your skills, fostering program compliance, error reduction, and HUD findings avoidance in compliance audits. Completion of this training satisfies a requirement for the Specialist of Occupancy-Public Housing or the Specialist of Eligibility and Calculation Certifications. Objectives
After completing this training, participants will be able to:
  • Grasp PH program rules, policies, and agency’s Administrative Plan importance. 

  • View the program from the applicant and participant perspective.   

  • Accurately determine tenant selection, occupancy, eligibility, rent and utility allowances in accordance with regulations and the Admission and Continued Occupancy Plan (ACOP).  

  • Verify and determine eligibility, income and rent for both applicants and participants.  

  • Apply effective tools and strategies for leasing, inspections, complying with regulations and the ACOP.  

  • Maintain compliance with applicable laws including Section 504, the Fair Housing Act and providing reasonable accommodations.  

  • Comply with federal reporting requirements including the 50058. 

  • Explore the basics of both the short and long (full) application, along with what’s required.  

  • Learn about types of waiting lists and marketing outreach.  

  • Review the options for local Public Housing preferences.  

  • Determine what is needed to place a household on the waiting list or notify an applicant of their ineligibility to be placed on the list.  

  • Discover strategies to help you manage effective and efficient waiting lists.
